Speroni Cup Charity Fans Match 2025

Celebrating a Decade Since the Julian Speroni Testimonial: A Charity Football Match in Dundee

On Saturday, 7th June 2025, football fans came together in Dundee to mark ten years since the Julian Speroni Testimonial match between Crystal Palace and Dundee. The event, held at Dundee Northend FC on Fairmuir Street, was more than just a friendly kickabout—it was a celebration of football and a fundraiser for two great causes: Fairfield Food Larder Dundee and Palace for Life Foundation in Croydon, South London.

Organising the match took months of planning, but the effort paid off as players and supporters alike enjoyed a fantastic day. The Palace side triumphed in an exciting 10-6 victory over the Dees, with the match made even more interesting by the presence of Dundee United fans playing alongside their Palace counterparts. Adding to the mix were supporters of Hearts, Rangers, and Celtic, bringing a unique blend of Scottish football allegiance to the game.

The occasion was made extra special by the dedication of a few Crystal Palace fans who made the journey north of the border to be part of the event. Their presence reinforced the strong footballing bond between clubs and fans, reminding everyone of the significance of the Julian Speroni Testimonial.

Dundee Northend FC played a key role in making the day welcoming and memorable for all involved, ensuring the match was more than just a game—it was a celebration of community, football, and giving back.

    Message from Vince

I have gained so much from Walk And Talk Football. I was introduced to it by Liz Swann who put me in contact with Rich who is the guy that runs it.

I was never one for doing much outside of my home comforts, as sometimes I find it difficult to mix with people I didn’t know, but this has been good for me.

It’s building up my confidence as well as trying to get fitter, and the others who also attend are a great bunch of people so I’m making new friends.

  • FAIRFIELD COMMUNITY

    FAIRFIELD COMMUNITY

Handing Fairfield Community Hub Project’s a donation of £40 as they do so much for the local community.

Fairfield Community Hub is Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization founded in 2008. The ethos behind The Hub is to be a catalyst in bringing back a sense of pride, enthusiasm and connectedness to the community through sports, creative classes and other recreational activities. We believe these classes and leisure activites bring the local community together and our aim is to create a safe space for all. We believe these opportunities should be available to everyone, regardless of their background.

Fairfield Community Hub also has its own food larder that’s ran by Volunteers.  Our vision is to ensure all people in our community can have a healthy nutritious meal.  Our Larder relies on Donations and all money received goes into buying food and toiletries. The difference between ourselves and a Foodbank is the people who attend can pick what they need, depending on their own circumstances to help them feed their households.  Giving them a shopping experience without the worry of how much it will cost.

  • THE START OF WALKING FOOTBALL

    THE START OF WALKING FOOTBALL

A few months ago I heard from a mate Gordon Farquharson who has been on the journey Paul and myself started in 2019 to raise awareness of Men’s Mental Health especially in Dundee. That Jimmy Sorrie from Fairfield Community Trust wanted to contact me about arranging a Mental Health Walking Football Group.

So I drafted what Walk and Talk Scotland have done and what we can do in the future. Plus we had two recommendations from two guys including Gordon and Gary Menzies who Paul and myself have helped and supported in different ways, but it was very much appreciated.

So funding was obtained. Met Jimmy at Fairfield and we agreed to start as soon as possible in January 2023 and on a Sunday.

Once a date and time was finalized and agreed then it was posted on various social media platforms including Walk and Talk Scotland’s Facebook page.

So on Sunday 15th January we met up at Fairfield Community Trust in Drumgeith Road Dundee and after a wee warm up then the first Mental Health Walking Football Group started. It was great fun and loads of friendly banter.

I think Walk and Talk Scotland in conjunction with Fairfield Community Trust will establish and continue to grow as we have already a great working relationship to aid and support people of Dundee and beyond.
