THE START OF WALKING FOOTBALL

A few months ago I heard from a mate Gordon Farquharson who has been on the journey Paul and myself started in 2019 to raise awareness of Men’s Mental Health especially in Dundee. That Jimmy Sorrie from Fairfield Community Trust wanted to contact me about arranging a Mental Health Walking Football Group.

So I drafted what Walk and Talk Scotland have done and what we can do in the future. Plus we had two recommendations from two guys including Gordon and Gary Menzies who Paul and myself have helped and supported in different ways, but it was very much appreciated.

So funding was obtained. Met Jimmy at Fairfield and we agreed to start as soon as possible in January 2023 and on a Sunday.

Once a date and time was finalized and agreed then it was posted on various social media platforms including Walk and Talk Scotland’s Facebook page.

So on Sunday 15th January we met up at Fairfield Community Trust in Drumgeith Road Dundee and after a wee warm up then the first Mental Health Walking Football Group started. It was great fun and loads of friendly banter.

I think Walk and Talk Scotland in conjunction with Fairfield Community Trust will establish and continue to grow as we have already a great working relationship to aid and support people of Dundee and beyond.
